I’m here at Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu. At first glance, it may seem like just another “Day at the Beach.” However, this day at the beach has deep meaning for these children. Each year, the Malibu Boardriders Surf Club and Camp Ronald McDonald partner to create “Camp Good Times.” The day is full of tandem surfing, boogie boarding and a whole array of beach activities not usually available to children with a severe ailment.

The “Day at the Beach” is hosted by the Malibu Boardriders and Ride a Wave Foundation and is provided free of charge. To generate funds for the beach day, the Malibu Boardriders started an annual surf contest called “Call to the Wall,” to raise money and awareness. This year, 150 children and approximately 120 volunteers participated in the beach day.
